The energy flow in the taiga biome starts with the Sun and the trees and plants. The sun gives off very large amounts of energy which is absorbed by the plants and trees through the process of photosynthesis. Some of this energy is used by the plants when cellular respiration is conducted so the amount of energy is lowered through it being used up by the plants and trees. As the flow of energy goes on, the plants and trees are eaten by herbivores. They feed on the plants in order to survive because they get energy from the plants and trees but because some of the energy from the sun had been used up already, the animal receives less energy. When the herbivores get eaten, the predator also receive the energy from the animal but the amount is little because energy had been lost along the way from the sun, to the trees, to the herbivore. The diminishment of energy occurs throughout the whole taiga biome and makes up the energy flow.
